~ contributed by Sandra Costanzo, Social Media InternThis week was my 5th week at the Lee Strasberg institute of Theater and Film. This week we focused on improv. Improv is doing a scene without a script and only based on the actors decisions and what they feel would improve the scene best.
In tv/film, we worked on our scripts that we were given last week. Since our scene partner did not show up to class, we were given the challenge of changing the whole scene from having a boy scene partner to a girl scene partner.
Some students felt this was difficult because the whole objective had changed. This is a challenge many actors face and have to be good with especially in independent or low budget films. An independent film is a film that is produced by a company that is not as well known or producers and directors just starting out. This is mostly seen with college students.
In method class, we started the class with another method warm up. This week we also included slatting into our warm up by saying our name at the end of the exercise. Slatting is before an audition an actor says their name and sometimes if asked an answer to a question, age or where they are from. This helps us raise our confidence in saying our names in an audition.
We finished the class by going over our scripts with our scene partners. We tried different objectives, which is trying different ways of doing the dialogue to find the one we are most comfortable.
Stay Tuned!
