Super Bowl XLV

~ contributed by Shannon Galaway, Social Media Intern

On Sunday, February 6, 2011, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium at the XLV Super Bowl. Although the main attraction to the Super Bowl is the football aspect, many others watch the Super Bowl to see the creative commercials and the musical performances.

The Super Bowl is the biggest event for commercials. This year it cost three million dollars for a company to have their commercial aired for thirty seconds. Some of these commericals were creative and entertaining while others were downright horrible. One commercial that had many people talking was the Ozzy Osborn and Justin Bieber commercial,
where Ozzy seems confused when Justin Bieber steps into the studio to advertise a new phone, he says "what's a bieber?" Another favorite among viewers was the Volkswagon commercial where a miniature Darth Vader believes that his "powers" are able to start his parents new Volkswagon. Other companies that had entertaing commericals were Budweiser and E-Trade. Although there were commericals that were not so good, such as Go Daddy and Brisk. Some commercials even featured stars such as Justin Bieber, Eminiem, and Faith Hill.

Another part of the Super Bowl that has had everyone talking was Christina Aguilera's national anthem mess up. During her performance she messed up the words by singing, "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming." instead of "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming." One reporter from The Huffington Post claimed that she said she lost her spot because she was so wrapped up in the moment. Besides Aguilera's mistake, everyone has been talking about the half time show. During half time the Black Eyed Peas performed their latest hit song "The Time" and a old song called "Where Is the Love?" Special guest Slash performed "Sweet Child of Mine" with Fergie and Usher also made a short apperance singing "OMG." People are also talking about the shows "light show". Over one hundered dancers with light up body suits created different formations such as arrows and words. Overall the half time show was more exciting for the younger crowd considering that the past three half time shows have featured older bands. This Super Bowl seemed to have many ups and downs but overall it was one to remember.
